Nashville chill pop artist Mokita (aka John-Luke Carter) opened the show. The last time we heard from them was a collaboration with Australian band Stand Atlantic for their single “I’m Sorry”.
Mokita, accompanied with a live guitarist, played a couple of new songs, including his latest single “Crash” (which came out June 3rd) near the end of his set. He ended his set with “Colorblind”, a song about his severe depression that he had since he was 14.
Originally scheduled for February 15, 2022, this Slenderbodies show (and the entire tour) was rescheduled at the last minute. The band apologized at the last minute: “due to multiple reasons we are making the choice to push our tour back to this summer. we’re very sorry for the last minute change but we will have new music out and it’ll be great to play it all live for you!! we’ve also added a few more dates, so hopefully we’ll be in your town soon! all tickets will still be valid for the new dates. if you can’t make the shows anymore, please contact venue box office for refund.”
The duo (guitarist Benji Cormack from Santa Cruz and singer/guitarist Max Vehuni from Los Angeles) joked how the band has grown since they form in 2016, referring to the two mannequins on the Fine Line Music Café stage.
Their biggest hit to date, “anemone” got over 30 million streams, and the two found themselves hanging out with Mura Masa, Passion Pit, and many others.
Since the tour is for their new album, Simple Shapes, they did play some new tracks, including “Smilin.”
