Ezra Furman headlined the Fine Line Music Café, in Minneapolis, on May 31st.
Opening the show was Melbourne’s Grace Cummings. She’s joined on stage with her brother on guitars, Tyler on drums, Lino on bass (she also thanked her driver, “Chef”). The group appeared in good form, happy to be in Minneapolis in the Summer.
Highlight of her set was a duet with Ezra Furman, for a cover of Bob Dylan’s “It's All Over Now, Baby Blue”.
They ended their set with “Heaven”.
Cumming’s latest album, Storm Queen is out now on ATO Records.
We previously saw Ezra Furman in June 2013, before her transformation as a transgender woman: “Ezra's performance had a raw, garage band feeling to it. His sound reminded me of early White Stripes releases. The clear standout in the set was "Queen of Hearts" off of 2012's The Year of No Returning. See setlist to read all the songs played, including merchandise reminders.”
Like the last time we saw Ezra, she still had that “raw, garage” sound, even nine years later. I know that her recent work with the Netflix series Sex Education, help build up a new audience for her… who may not realized that she’s been writing music since 2006 as Ezra Furman and the Harpoons.
Ezra Furman mentioned that she’ll have a new album called All of Us Flames, which is set for an August 2022 release under the Anti– label.
