Opening was Atlanta-based lo-fi duo Lowertown, featuring singer Olivia Osby and Avsha Weinberg (aka Avsha The Awesome). Their debut LP Friends, which came out in 2019, got millions of streams on Spotify, and last year the two traveled to London to record their EP The Gaping Mouth producer Catherine Marks, known for her work with Foals, St. Vincent, Manchester Orchestra, Wolf Alice and more.
This was Lowertown’s first-ever tour, and they seem to be holding up quite well. There were a few bumps when some notes were misplayed, and had to be reset… but the group brush it off, as they start again. We’ve seen seasoned bands messing up, so for a first tour, they are doing just fine.
Speaking of going well, this was only Wet Leg’s second American date, and judging by the reception, they are going to have an absolutely great time. The band was started by Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, meeting at Wight College at the Isle of Wight. After ten years of friendship, they decided to produce music under Wet Leg and released their debut single, “Chaise Longue”, which became a massive viral hit. We’re talking over 3 million streams on the music video alone (millions on Spotify as well). It’s easy to see why, the song is fun and it’s catchy… and it’s like nothing you’ve ever heard of, especially when you hear Rhian saying, “I got the big D.” as the song has a sexual connotation.
Of course, the band saved their biggest song last, as they ended their show on a very high note, as fans sang along.
Wet Leg’s debut self-titled album is set for release on April 8, 2022, via Domino.
