Our favorite Korean musician Japanese Breakfast (stagename for Michelle Zauner) is back on tour in support of her new album Jubilee (Dead Oceans Records).
She’ll be headlining First Avenue’s mainroom. Toronto native multi-instrumentalist and producer, Luna Li (aka Hannah Kim) will open the show.
We saw Japanese Breakfast headlined the now-defunct Triple Rock Social Club in Oct 2017 and said, “This was Japanese Breakfast’s first headlining show… We’ve gradually seen her feel more comfortable on stage, and, personally speaking, she was at her finest hour at the Triple Rock Social Club show. The spotlight was finally full focused on her, and she was ready to shine.”
Bonus – enjoy her photo at the Triple Rock below.
For full tour listing, please head over to her website. We’re only listing up to October 2021.

Chinese-born, New York-and-LA-based producer, songwriter, DJ and multidisciplinary artist Alice Longyu Gao is about to head out on her USA tour (some dates with Rebecca Black). To celebrate, she’s releasing her latest single, “Kanpai” (the word means “Cheers” in Chinese, Japanese and Korean).
About the single, Gao shares, “My best friend Madison Emiko Love and I wrote this song three years ago. Her grandma is a Japanese immigrant and we always want to champion & plug our culture everywhere we go. We’ve been waiting to put this song out, cuz back then no one with power in western music realized the power of Asian pop culture, no one really cared to put Asian talents on the table. The material world was asleep cuz they didn't see the money-benefits. 'Kanpai' means cheers in Chinese, Japanese and Korean; the joyful vibe translates perfectly throughout the song. The braggy-docious, rap-y bridge part in the song is what I wish for, it's not my reality yet. Last year was dark for me, and for everyone. But now it is time to regroup and restart, this song wakes me up in the morning, it reminds me that I came to this earth with a mission. I aspire to inspire and benefit other people’s lives. I do that through my art.”
