Minneapolis’ Hippo Campus announced their forthcoming EP Good Dog, Bad Dream via Grand Jury. The EP will come out August 6th.
Talking about the “good dog” lyric from the title track “Bad Dream Baby”, singer Jake Luppen explained, “The lyrics are a stream of consciousness, darting between my complex relationship with my father, a Britney Spears documentary, and some older men at Grumpy's (my favorite bar in Minneapolis) who used to hit on me. The hook references my exit from the Mormon religion when I was 15 and the isolation felt during quarantine and the death of the dog my mom got me during my parents’ intense divorce.”
We last saw Hippo Campus at their hometown gig in March 2017 and wrote, “The buzz for Hippo Campus at their homecoming show was simply amazing. As soon as the band took the stage, a hundred cellphones went up in the air to record every moment of the band. The audience was generally young teenagers, but that is expected for a semi-rare all-ages weekend show at First Avenue.”
With new music coming out, you can probably expect to see the group heading back to touring. We’ll keep you updated if they do return to the road.
