According to the article on parismatch.com , his real name is Yves Martin and he’s married to popular French singer Sheila. The article also mentioned that he “interpreted” theme songs for Starsky and Hutch and Dallas (maybe for the French version?).
Personally speaking, I only know him as the singer/songwriter of the theme song to Ulysses 31 (the 80s French/Japanese cartoon). I saw the television show in the USA and absolutely love the awesome theme song. In fact, the Ulysses 31: 40th Anniversary Soundtrack was the last album I bought on Amazon. It’s hard to believe it’s been 40 years (in 2021)… but the music sounded just as good as it did in 1981.
Although I love the soundtrack and the animation… Unfortunately, the cartoon fell into obscurity. If you talk to anyone around my age, they’ve never heard of it.
It’s such a great concept. It’s about Ulysses in the 31st century. He offended the gods, and was banished to unknown space… and the entire series is Ulysses trying to find his way home from his long odyssey.
While other cartoons from the 80s, such as Transformers, GI Joe, and He-Man, are all celebrated … not so for Ulysses 31. It’s possible that no one remembered or liked the show, or that it’s tied up in some weird rights and distribution.
Again, I’m sadden to hear that Lionel Leroy has died. If you want to celebrate his work, I highly recommend buying the 40th Anniversary Soundtrack of Ulysses 31. It’s only $6 on Amazon Digital.
