I was a big fan of The Terrordactyls, so when I heard they were stopping by Minneapolis as part of the 2008 tour, I knew I needed to see them. Since I’ve never heard of The Belfry Center before, I decided to show up extra early in case I got lost. Turns out, it was a straight shot, and we ended up in the vicinity way too early.
To pass the time, we stopped in at a Soul restaurant and had dinner. It wasn’t long before I spotted Michael and Tyrel from The Terrordactyls, plus their friends (which I didn’t know at the time was Best Friends Forever). I figure that it was a free concert, but I wanted to give back to the performers (I usually buy a T-Shirt or 7” to support bands I like)… so I thought it would be cool if I just pay for their dinner on my bill.
I secretly paid for their bill, and on my way out, I stopped by The Terrordactyls’ table and said, “Dinner’s on me! It’s already paid for. I’ll see you guys at the show tonight!”
I think they were a little confused, but grateful. I didn’t want to interrupt them, so I went straight to the venue.
Apparently, the Belfry Center is not really a concert venue at all. It’s some sort of volunteer social center. We had to go down to the basement, where we see a “stage” and a massive beam in the center. It was dark and it had poor lighting… I guess, like a typical basement/house show. That’s what it felt like.
At the time (in 2008), the program director (or person for putting on this show), did not want us to mention that there was a concert there. He/she said the city did not grant them a performance license (assuming it’s noise-ordinance-related). It’s over a decade now, so I think I can talk about all this without getting that person in trouble for holding this concert.
I thought the headliner was The Terrordactyls, but imagine my surprise that they were first on the bill, and only played a short, 30-min set.
Peppermint Patty (I’m not even sure if that’s the band name? Peppermint Paddy?), a local Minneapolis band I’ve never heard of, played next.

This is just a placeholder for Best Friends Forever, Peppermint Patty, and The Terrordactyls at an undisclosed location, as I'm very, very, very, very (can I stress the word very one more time?) tired right now.
If I don't make it into work tomorrow, know that I'm in my warm bed with my cat dreaming of BFF.
Some random things:
2. Peppermint Patty, I am hoping that's how you spell their name, basically plays Christmas songs set to a banjo and an accordion.
3. Terrordactyls are friendlier than real life dinosaurs. When they said they "brought a piano with them on tour", they really mean it. (It's a toy piano).
Buy some CDs at say-and-stay-said.com (although I didn't notice their latest CD, Romance Conflict Adventure, on there.)
The morning after report:
Since I've already mentioned all the random interesting bits from last night, I won't really go into too much detail (I'm still tired), but I will mention that I will do a full/real article on BFF later. I listened to Romance Conflict Adventure two or three times driving home, so either it's a really short album, or I've had a long drive.
The 'Dactyls did a pretty short set, including "Overcast Summer", but not "Devices" (probably because this song requires a woman part). Michael and Tyrel did most of the singing. Tyrel complained that he now had to do all the work (despite he has very minimum responsibility haha) as they lost their toy pianist (and assuming kazoo player) along the way.
