I caught the news about the passing of actress and singer Doris Day a few days ago (May 13), but hadn’t had the time to organize my thoughts on her death.
Like many stars of the 50s and 60s, they were definitely a little before my time, but obviously I love her music, thanks to hearing other people’s cover and interpretations (such as Sinead O’Connor and Line Renaud).
She had a couple of #1 singles, “Sentimental Journey” and “My Dreams Are Getting Better All the Time” with Les Brown & His Band of Renown, but her solo songs (from her movies) is probably better known: “Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)” and “Secret Love”.
She probably has a lot of other hit songs, but those are the only ones that I can think of at the moment.
Also in the news: The Dells singer Chuck Barksdale died at the age of 84, and I was shocked to see that someone (Mike Wilhelm) in The Charlatans died. Of course, on closer inspection, it’s the 60s band The Charlatans, not the UK Charlatans (Tim Burgess’s band).
