The product I’m using is the NuWave 36001 Brio Air Fryer, but since all the other products (including the “Original Air Fryer” by Phillips) uses the same heating technology, that perhaps they are all basically the same. I feel the same way about a microwave oven, you can’t go wrong with buying any brand.
Someone asked me what’s the difference between an Air Fryer and, say, a toaster oven. Although the two are very similar, the fryer gives your food a nice browning exterior and doesn’t quite dry up your food.
So far, the best things I make with the fryer are French fries. They consistently turn out crunchy on the outside, but hot on the inside. Every bite is delicious. I have never, ever made frozen French fries this good. In the past, using oil or microwave or toaster oven, they turn out soggy or too stiff or too dry. Ten to twelve minutes in the Air Fryer and you have the most amazing French fries.
Also, you know that funky smelly when you defrost and cook French fries that’s been frozen for a long time? I can’t explain it, but it weird taste and smells are gone when you use an Air Fryer.
Since it’s the winter, I’ve have bought about $40 worth of frozen food and stored them in my garage. For weeks now, I’ve eaten nothing but Air Fried food. Everything from frozen vegetables to pizzas to burritos, and they are generally edible. Some things, like broccoli and giant frozen burritos don’t turn out too good on the fryer (since a lot of product designed specifically for the microwave).
Using the NuWave machine is pretty easy with its digital display. Only the on button is illuminated, so when you press that (with the tray locked in), it will automatically cook at 360° at 10 minutes. From there you can adjust time or temperature. The most common items are on top of the display, for example frozen fries, they suggest 390° at 12 minutes.
If you’re unsure how long to cook, you can always pause the time and take a look at your cooking tray. It’s definitely better to check rather than burn your food.

Should you get an Air Fryer? I think so, but only if you love fried or frozen food. You get the benefit (tastes, texture) of deep fried without all the unhealthy oils. Plus, there’s hardly any mess.
My only complaints about this model of the Air Fryer is that it is meant for single serving. If you’re feeding three people, you need to make two or three batches, so I wish the product was just slightly larger. Ideally, I would love to fit a Totino’s pizza (at least 60 inches) or a small chicken. I believe NuWave makes a larger capacity Air Fryer, I’m just complaining about my particular model. For most families, the base model should be fine.
The other complaint really isn’t that big of a deal. Cooking things takes longer in an Air Fryer than a Microwave. Fries are around 12 minutes, which, while is not that long, does feel like an eternity if you’re hungry and watching the minutes tick down.
With all the kitchen appliances you may own (toaster, coffee maker, microwave), it does feel like the Air Fryer may take up valuable counter space… but believe me, it’s worth it.
