While this came as no surprise to us, it’s still sad to hear that Grant Hart from Hüsker Dü has died. He was 56.
When we saw Hart on 20 July 2017, we didn’t know going in that it would be his last show. As the show started, and seeing Hart on stage, with clear visible loss of weight from his July 1st appearance: we knew something was wrong. It didn’t take a genius to conclude that he was terminal. We didn’t want to say it, but if you were there to witness the tears and a weakened Hart (he had an assistant helping him on stage, etc.), you would come to the right conclusion too.
Just before his death, Hart made peace with Bob Mould and announced a special Husker Du boxset, called SAVAGE YOUNG DÜ.
