New York’s The Dig (guitarist David Baldwin, bassist Emile Mosseri, keys/guitars Erick Eiser, and drummer Mark Demiglio) opened up the show. We haven’t seen the indie/psych rock band since 2012 at the now-defunct 400 Bar, when they were touring in support of Midnight Flowers.
Now the band is back with Bloodshot Tokyo, doing a string of tour with Portugal. The Man, and now with Dan Croll. The band is getting a lot of buzz from their new singles ‘Communion’ and ‘Tired of Love’.
The Dig spent their entire set playing with a backdrop of blood red color, while the front lights were in stark blue. Like last time, you can see David and Emile trading singing and instrument duties.
Highlight of their show was after ‘I Already Forgot Everything You Said’, singer Emile Mosseri dedicated ‘Self Made Man’ to Dylan. He even got the audience to chant the name before the band started to play the song.
As soon as their set ended, the band hustled to clear the stage, as their set ran a little overtime.
Dan Croll took the stage, shortly after 10:15pm with a full backing band: John Stark on bass, Andrew Hunt on keys, Jethro Fox on guitar, and David Kelly on drums.
We first saw Croll as opener to Aurora on November 2016, writing, “UK folktronic singer-songwriter Dan Croll (who is one to watch as well) opened the evening with a criminally short but enjoyable thirty-five minute set of songs from his 2014 full length Sweet Disarray (Deram Records/Universal) as well as some new music set to appear on his next album…. Minneapolis was actually the second US city Croll ever played in, after his first gig in Chicago.”
Croll only had Andrew Hunt helping him with his 2016 tour, so now back with a full band, he was able to play Croll’s songs as they were meant to be heard.
After a long tour, Croll confessed that he actually didn’t know what day it was. “I’ve been informed that it’s the weekend,” he said, before they played ‘January’.
