Since their debut single ‘Free Animal’ (the song which ended their brief 35-min set), the alt-pop duo has enjoyed streaming success - cracking Spotify's Viral Top 20 Chart and earning spins from Beats 1’s Zane Lowe, KCRW, etc.
After these Strumbellas shows, Foreign Air will join up with Aurora in November and December.
Toronto’s The Strumbellas is currently one of the hottest band in America, thanks to very catchy singles ‘We Don’t Know’ and ‘Spirits’. The turnout to the Strumbellas’ Fine Line Music Café show in Minneapolis was terrific, and judging from all the dancing in the audience, they create some of the best folk, bluegrass, Americana, and “popgrass” music you’ve ever heard.
The large band, featuring songwriter Simon Ward on vocals and guitar, David Ritter on vocals and keys, Jon Hembrey on lead guitar, Isabel Ritchie on violin, Darryl James on bass guitar, and Jeremy Drury on drums.
Kicking off their set with two terrific story-in-song ‘Wars’, followed by ‘Young & Wild’, the band played quite a few from their latest Hope, which has enjoyed success in the recent charts.
Of course, the band saved their biggest hit song ‘Spirits’ for the set closer. This is followed by the two encore songs ‘Wild Sun’ and ‘Home Sweet Home’, both moving, heartfelt songs.
