Our favorite noisy, coolest Japanese rock ‘n roll band Guitar Wolf will be returning to Minnesota next Thursday, September 1st at Amsterdam Bar & Hall in St Paul.
Guitar Wolf’s 12th studio album T-Rex From a Tiny Space Yojouhan is available on digital and CD, and also a special cassette edition from Burger Records. In case you were wondering, a yojouhan is equal to four and a half tatami mats (used as a measurement of a room size). It equals to about 74 square feet... which is a tiny Tatami room. So basically a giant Tyrannosaurus Rex won’t really fit in a small Yojouhan room.
Anyway, we love Guitar Wolf, having seen the jet rock trio a few times. GW’s last appearance at the Turf Club in 2013 was so memorable, with GW doing his various iconic poses for the fans.
According to the poster, special guest Hans Condor will open the show. Condor is from Nashville, Tennessee, and he’ll be bringing his band: bassist Erik Holcombe, drummer Ryan “Best in the Biz” Sweeney, and guitarist Chazz Kaster.

Baltimore’s Multicult released a dazzling new record called Position Remote on Reptilian Records just last week and, brother, is it potent. The noise rock trio, consisting of vocalist/guitarist Nick Skrobisz, drummer Jake Cregger and bassist Rebecca Burchette, are carrying the torch from influential bands like Big Black and Unsane with their abrasive sound.
On September 1st, the band will join a fantastic line-up of Twin Cities noise brethren at the Turf Club: Novacron (which features members of Hammerhead, Seawhores, Vaz, and Gay Witch Abortion), Animal Lover (chaotic jagged ear nourishment) and headliner (and one of my favorite local acts) Buildings who will be celebrating the release of a split 12” with WI’s Volunteer. The split 12” comes out this Friday on Triple Eye Industries and, pssssst, it contains Buildings’ phenomenal cover of PJ Harvey’s “Snake” on it.

Prince was a big deal. When he died unexpectedly, we were shocked and we talked about it for weeks... and we speculated that The Revolution will reunite. And they have! Currently, The Revolution features Wendy & Lisa (keys), Brownmark (bass), Dr Fink (keys), André Cymone (bass), Dez Dickerson (guitars), Gayle Chapman (keys) & Bobby Z (drums)... who announced a reunion show on September 1st. Of course, that sold out, and the organizers added two additional dates (Sept 2 and 3), also sold out.
It’s clear that fans just cannot get enough of Prince.
Details:
Following recent speculation about The Revolution reuniting, the band has announced two shows in the First Avenue Mainroom on Friday, September 2 and Saturday, September 3. Joined by Dez Dickerson and André Cymone, the line-‐up consists of key players and collaborators from Prince’s most formative years, through the global phenomenon of Purple Rain and beyond.
“When we first spoke to The Revolution, and the conversation turned to a possible reunion, it only seemed natural to bring them to First Avenue -‐ to bring them home,” says First Avenue’s General Manager, Nate Kranz.
Tickets for both nights of “An Evening with The Revolution” featuring Wendy, Lisa, Brownmark, Dr. Fink, and Bobby Z, with special guests Dez Dickerson and André Cymone, go on sale this Friday, July 8, 2016 at 11:00am CST. General admission tickets are $65.00, and VIP tickets are available for $99.00. VIP allows early access to the venue for a reception with hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. VIP includes a limited edition commemorative laminate for the event.
"Only by playing for you, the fans, can we be Prince’s Revolution. He gives Us 2 oneanother now, as we all start to heal and fill forever emptiness with sound. 2gether, we are The Revolution.” -‐ The Revolution
