The New York experimental pop duo Young Magic is heading out on tour with Yeasayer in support of their new album Still Life (Carpark) and will be at First Avenue on Tuesday, May 24. This album will be a special one for Young Magic as singer Melati Malay used these songs to culturally and politically explore her birthplace of Indonesia and to really revisit her family roots (her father is American Catholic and her mother is Indonesian Muslim) and question where she came from.
Yeasayer will be headlining the show in support of Amen & Goodbye (Mute). The have moved away from their digital-heavy approach and it will definitely be interesting to see what they have come up with.

Seattle’s The Cave Singers is back on tour in support of their fifth LP Banshee, which was crowd-funded via IndiGoGo. The band was previously signed to Matador and Jagjaguwar.
We previously caught the band at Gothic Theatre in Englewood, Colorado, and wrote, “The Cave Singers’ structure revolves around the vocal allure of bearded front man Pete Quirk. The Gothic proved to be the perfect venue for Quirk to showcase his raspy and intoxicating voice. Quirk splashes each song with inherent and exuberant yelps, yips and wails. Not a man of enunciation, Quirk’s vocals add scratchy layers to the overall sound.”
The tour starts Tuesday, May 24th at 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis. Nashville’s Blank Range to open.
