It was an eye-opening Wednesday morning as after the largest indoor and largest outdoor concert venue in Minneapolis, the Target Center and the yet-to-open US Bank Stadium, had followed through on their teases the day before, to announce big shows coming to town.
Metallica announced that they will be headlining the first rock concert at Minneapolis' US Bank Stadium, the new home of the Minnesota Vikings, on Saturday, August 20th as part of the opening weekend festivities. Avenged Sevenfold and Danish band Volbeat are show support acts.
Tickets for this one-of-a-kind concert will go on sale this Friday, March 25th at 10:00AM Local Time, with all bands’ fan clubs providing early presales earlier in the week.
"We had such an amazing time playing in our hometown stadium the night before the Super Bowl that when asked we couldn't say 'no' to another chance to be part of a very special weekend," said Metallica's Lars Ulrich.
The Minneapolis date remains the only 2016 tour date anywhere for the band, so many out of area fans are expected to fly in for the show.
Meanwhile, down the street, the Target Center plays host to not one but two sure-to-sell-out dates on Sir Paul McCartney’s One on One Tour coming May 4th and 5th.
Called the One on One Tour because it is more intimate in scope (arenas instead of stadiums, which is cozy by Paul’s standards),the show will debut a brand new production, utilizing state of the art audio and video technology employing massive screens, lasers, fireworks, and, of course, a bevy of the best known songs ever.
He dazzled everyone last time here at Target Field, playing three hours worth of Beatles, Wings and solo classics and Paul's solid band of the last 10+ years – Paul "Wix" Wickens (keyboards), Brian Ray (bass/guitar), Rusty Anderson (guitar) and Abe Laboriel Jr (drums) – remains unchanged.
Tickets for Sir Paul go on sale to the general public on Monday March 21 at 10am CST.
