Born in Cuba, Nachito Herrera was first recognized for his genius piano skills when famed Cuban pianist and Buena Vista Social Club member, Ruben Gonzalez invited the 16-year-old Nachito to join him on stage. Since then, Herrera studied with other Cuban masters, including Chucho Valdes, Ruben Gonzalez & Frank Fernandez.
Herrera moved to Minnesota in 2001, and quickly established himself as one of the great Cuban pianists working today.
Joining him at the Dakota for a two-night (four shows) booking will be his band The Universals, featuring violinist Karen Briggs, drummer Raul Pineda, saxophonist Mike Phillips, and bassist Riccardo Fierabracci.

Benjamin Cartel is back in Minneapolis, this time in support of his PledgeMusic-funded new solo album Gothenburg.
You may recall that we have previously seen him several times as the duo KaiserCartel (with Courtney Kaiser)... and fear not, the band has not broken up - they recently announced a December 29th show at Rockwood Music Hall in New York.
The Icehouse show is billed as "with Friends", and I have read that would include Mike Cohen (saxophonist and woodwind player ... probably not related to RIP singer/songwriter Michael Cohen) and Sami Buccella (Brooklyn-based bassist).
Tour date:
20 Dec 15 Rozz-Tox Rock Island, IL
21 Dec 15 Des Moines Social Club Des Moines, IA
22 Dec 15 Red Herring Duluth, MN
23 Dec 15 Icehouse Minneapolis, MN
29 Dec 15 Rockwood Music Hall, New York*
08 Jan 16 American Folk Art Museum New York, NY
* As KaiserCartel

Presented by Danny Sigelman, sponsored by Jewish Community Action and Stand Up! Records... spend Christmas Eve with the Jews in the 12th Annual Jewbilee, featuring Denim Matriarch, Planet Plookey, Sons of Moses, and Dan Israel.
The modest cover charge will get you into the 7th Street Entry for the music, however, if you're a cheapskate, you can just hang out at the Depot Tavern (next door) to listen to some comedy absolutely free.
Although this is a Jewish event, they encourage non-Jews to attend this Christmas Eve.
Performances by:
Planet Plookey
The Sons Of Moses with Bobby Z
Dan Israel
Sidney Oxborough
