Day one of
Wizard World Minneapolis just took place last night at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
Beyond the S.H.I.E.L.D.
|
The first programming we attended was for the
Beyond the S.H.I.E.L.D. podcast with
Adam Wells and Mitra Nelson. Wells started the show dressed as Matt Murdock, but in the middle of the conversation, he disappeared under the table ... to reappear as Daredevil (the black ninja costume).
Kevin Smith's plane got delayed, so unfortunately the Wizard World Comic Con Minneapolis Ribbon Cutting/Opening Ceremonies was canceled.
Midnight Movies Panel
|
Meanwhile, the
Midnight Movies: Birth, Death, and Afterlife was taking place with local film buffs: Theresa Kay of Trash Film Debauchery, Tim Alan Holly and Colette Ricci of Tape Freaks, Christopher K. Grap of Theaters At The Mall Of America, C Warren Dale of Midnight Movies Minneapolis and local filmmaker Dwayne Robinson.
Some of the bad B-films they recommended were Nicholas Cage's brilliant
Vampire's Kiss, Peter Jackson's
Meet the Feebles, and
The Carrier.
Gordon Purcell and Dan Jurgens
|
Spotlight on Dan Jurgens (featuring moderator/artist
Gordon Purcell and artist/writer
Dan Jurgens) look at Jurgens' history. It was the same career examination like last year
with Danny Fingeroth and Dan Jurgens... with plenty of discussion about how massive the death of Superman event was. New to the discussion were a few upcoming Jurgens projects:
Batman Beyond and
Batmite.
How to Write Comics
|
The
How to Write Comics panel with
Chris Claremont,
Larry Hama,
Michael Avon Oeming and
Renee Witterstaetter really didn't feel like a how-to. A lot of their conversations was sometime the characters they create are so good that it would dictate how the story would end. These guys prefer to write using the "Marvel Style", which is loosely plotting and giving it to the artist to draw and then finalized by adding the dialogue once they got the artwork back.
As usual, there were plenty of cosplayers and exhibitors, so check out the photo gallery below:
