False Teeth: Grapefruit

In 2012, we briefly mentioned Panama when they had just released "Magic". I mentioned that the band was lead by Jarrah McCleary, who had previously been behind The Dirty Secrets. Since then Australian band have built up a lot of buzz, racking up over two million Soundcloud plays and consistently top listing on the Hype Machine charts.
When Panama took the stage at 11 o'clock near the rear of the stage (away from the center spotlight), their fans took the dancefloor, dancing away to all their songs. Since they only have two EP and a few singles, the majority of their set were songs from It's Not Over (title track, "We Have Love", etc.) and their recently released Always (title track, "Destroyer", etc.) They threw in a couple of new (unrecorded) songs, which I thought sounded good live, one song having the lyrics "We'll stay here for the summer".
The trio seemed really happy to be on US soil, particularly Minneapolis, when they said, "It was worth coming all the way from Australia... This is like Prince's hometown, right?" The long van drive to the city, as they put it, "it was all worth it."
Panama has this 80s synth/dance sound that inspired the mostly a younger crowd near the front to dance at every turn. That is a good sign, considering how young (as far as music recording goes) for this band. They have a lot of potential, and I can see them coming back to a bigger and more mainstream audience. I felt really good as they covered Clubfeet's song "Cape Town" for their set finale, "Won't you dance with me, it's my birthday. Everybody buy me a drink, it's my birthday." Those lyrics remained in my head, well after the band left the stage.
Panama's current EP Always is out now via 300 Entertainment. The Australian band continues their tour of the US.
