Are you going to see Camera Obscura this Saturday at First Avenue in Minneapolis? Show up early to catch Nashville-born, New York City-based singer-songwriter Laura Cantrell!
It should be no surprise that this artist is touring with Camera Obscura, because Tracyanne Campbell (Camera Obscura's lead singer) has collaborated with Cantrell for her fifth (and latest) release called No Way There From Here, which came out in January 2014 via Thrift Shop Recordings and distributed by Red Eye.
Other collaborators includes Amy Allison, Franklin Bruno, Jim Lauderdale, Kenny Vaughan, Michael Cerveris, Caitlin Rose, William Tyler (Lambchop), Paul Niehaus (Lambchop, Calexico) and Paul Burch.
Talking to americansongwriter.com, Cantrell explained, "Each recording project presents a fresh question to answer about what you're doing and why. For this record, where I’ve worked for the first time with mostly my own songs and point of view, the pressure I’ve felt is to find what suits each song and do it justice. It was challenging and exciting, because I have had to really define the sound."
Cantrell is currently on tour:
07/25/14 Chicago, IL Thalia Hall *
07/26/14 Minneapolis, MN First Avenue *
09/18/14 Nashville, TN City Winery Nashville

Laura Welsh will be releasing her latest single "Break the Fall" on August 11th, via Outsiders/Polydor. We've previously mentioned her last single, "Cold Front." Although currently based in London, Welsh grew up in Staffordshire.
Teaming up with Bruno Mars and Lana Del Rey producer Emile Haynie, "Break the Fall" song is "a shimmering electro-pop anthem is a tale of betrayal inspired by the breakdown of a marriage within her family." Look for various remixes by Gemini, Embody, Para One, Pitron & Sanna, Apple Bottom and Ninetoes to accompany the release.
"Break the Fall" is a strong indication of what you can expect for her upcoming debut album. The album already has collaboration with Dev Hynes, Robin Hannibal from R&B minimalists Rhye, Jonathan Lipsey (Alicia Keys, Amy Winehouse), Greg Kurstin (The Shins, Beck, Lily Allen), Scissor Sisters' Babydaddy and three-time Ivor Novello winning Amanda Ghost.
When not working on her record, Welsh can be seen writing a duet with John Legend, co-writing and lending her voice to Gorgon City's "Here For You".
Live dates:
05/24/14 Dot To Dot Festival

Singer-songwriter artist Laura Mann (not to be confused with Lauren Mann or Aimee Mann) recently released Just For Today (Mann-Kind Records in conjunction with Kevon Glickman, Blingnot Media and distributed by The Orchard).
Just for Today is described as: Produced in Los Angeles by producer Charlton Pettus (Tears for Fears, Clay Aiken, and Taylor Dane) and was mastered by Grammy Award winning engineer, Ted Jensen, at Sterling Sound in New York. The album features songs co-written with Scot Sax and Lowen & Navarro (including a duet performance with Dan Navarro on title track "Just for Today"), and cover versions of songs by Robert Hazard and Paul McCartney, along with a number of Laura's original compositions.
Hoping to give back to the community, part of the net proceeds from the album will go to benefit Minding Your Mind, a non-profit organization in Philadelphia that provides free mental health education to adolescents, teens and young adults, their parents, teachers and school administrators.
Mann adds, "My song 'Just for Today' brings my audience through the journey of finding recovery to freedom."
