The Colourist are finally on their very first headlining tour, selling out the 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis last night, April 4th.
Starting off the show was the Wind and the Wave. We first saw the duo (Dwight Baker and 'Crabby' Patty Lynn) open up for Stereophonics, which I described as writing songs about beach wreckages, lonely California driving, and that they were waiting the release of their album.... Nothing's changed since last year, the band are still awaiting the release of their album from RCA Records.
Although you can hear "California" on some television shows (like Hart of Dixie), currently, their only single is "With Your Two Hands", which you can get on iTunes. They ended their set with a Simple Mind cover of "Don't You (Forget About Me)", which got the crowd singing along.
The Wind and the Wave will be opening for Bruce "the Boss" Springsteen tonight in Dallas.
Next up was Night Terrors of 1927, a band from Los Angeles. They started off strong with "Bury This Love", a song that sounds like it could from the New Romantics period.
While most of their songs were upbeat, they did slow it down with "Shine."
Let's talk about The Colourist. The first time I saw them, they opened up for Youngblood Hawke last year, and the pop band blew me away.
The band's been back to Minneapolis since then, even explaining how they purchased long underwear for the first time, making snow angels weren't a good idea ... and that leaving an unopened soda in the car at negative fifteen degrees was not a good idea. So, let's just say the band is not relocating to Minneapolis any time soon.
The Colourist basically played their debut album, which came out last week, plus throwing in a few odds and ends. Although there were some new songs I didn't recognize on the set, they did return to their very first song they wrote called "Fairweather Friend." You can tell that singer Adam Castilla was quite proud of the song.
As usual, at least to me, the attention seems to be focused on their girl drummer Maya Tuttle, who looked like she was in good spirit.
My favorite songs on the set was "Yes Yes" and "Tonight (Young Hearts)", even though I probably can't relate to the lyrics.
The audience was quiet receptive to The Colourist's music, as they all sang along to all the singles... including the final song, "Little Games."
