Forget the Polar Vortex, the Winter Psych Storm is coming.
A taste of Texas psychedelia hits the road as Austin’s The Black Angels brings 13th Floor Elevators rock legend Roky Erickson out in a rare road outing that will no doubt prove to be a very memorable evening.
The Black Angels, still riding high on the success of 2013’s Indigo Meadow (Blue Horizon Ventures) combine forces with the psych-rock pioneer; both with their own full set, and reportedly acting as Erickson’s backing band, for a set that is to include some 13th Floor Elevators songs not heard live in years.
Erickson, who has lived out of the spotlight with 40 years of misdiagnosed mental illness, has nevertheless continued to influence more contemporary acts such as REM, Jesus and Mary Chain, and The Cramps, among countless others.
Brooklyn desert-psych duo Golden Animals, supporting their Kickstarter-funded Here Eye Go, rounds out the very trippy bill that is worth braving the elements for.
