As I've previously written about The Rentals, the band has a habit of breaking up: breaking up in 1996, then again breaking up in 2002. I also noted that The Rentals reformed once again in 2006 to "record that difficult third album". That third album, I guess is finally coming out in 2014.
The new record will feature Matt Sharp (of course) and Jess Wolfe & Holly Laessig, Ryen Slegr, Lauren Chipman and Patrick Carney. The record is currently being mixed by D. Sardy (LCD Soundsystem, Jay-Z.)
The news broke when Matt Sharp, on his Twitter page, announced, "I am beyond thrilled to announce @therentals have just signed with my favorite record label @polyvinyl."
Stay tuned additional news and details in 2014. I am pretty sure they will get the band back together and go on tour next year.
What the what? What year is it, 1998?
