About I Need You Bad
I Need You Bad is a compilation curated by Sonny Smith (of Sonny & the Sunsets) documenting the current garage rock scene in the Bay area and beyond (not every band included here is from the Bay area & it's not 100% garage rock!).
FormatsFeaturing artwork by Shannon Shaw (Shannon and the Clams), I Need You Bad is a perfect snapshot into one of the most influential and thriving music scenes in the country, if not the world.

Minneapolis use to be a rock city, but I've noticed that a lot of these "garage" bands don't get much notice here. Which is great, because I get to see these bands in a more intimate setting ... but it sucks because some of these bands don't even play here. Which is fine, it gives me a reason to travel and see some of these bands in bigger cities like Chicago, Illinois, or Austin, Texas.
I Need You Bad is a great compilation. Musically, it hits all the right notes with its hippie, 60's surfy vibe. I wish this had included all types of garage from the likes of Tennessee and Detroit areas but this is also a great cohesive West Coast with some Portland dashed in. There are a few bands from the Cali area I wish were on here, but for those looking for a list of up and comers this is a great mix.
I love Shannon Shaw's cover artwork from Hunx and his Punx and Shannon and her Clams fame, and would just purchase this tape/vinyl (if available) just for her art alone.
I knew a few of these bands from my Burger Collection, but now I know there are some bands I can keep an eye out for. Too bad this is coming out this winter, because this would be a perfect cassette jam for my summer cruisin'.
