Arcade Fire is under fire lately. The Canadian band demanded that all attendees at their arena concert tour this year must wear suits and formalwear (the fine print when you purchase their tickets lists Please Note: NIGHT OF SHOW: Please wear formal attire or costume.) at all their shows.
Before their show in Montreal, the band tweeted "Formal attire or costume MANDATORY. (Formal wear = suit, dress or fancy something. . .)." and when they played London, singer Win Butler told the crowd, "To anyone who felt uncomfortable dressing up, I'm not sorry."
Fans were clearly upset about this mandatory dress code. Non fans say that Arcade Fire is the most pretentious band in the world.
I guess Arcade Fire is now backing down on their mandatory formal dress code, telling fans to "relax" and that "it's super not mandatory." Still, I think it's too late, the original message is already out there.
Personally, I will not be attending any of their shows, now or in the future. Look, I'm not a fan of people telling me what to do and what to wear. I hope Arcade Fire understand why fans are upset. All of this could have been avoided if they made dressing up a voluntarily thing, instead of being dictators about it.

Arcade Fire is currently out on tour in support of their recently released of the double-album Reflektor, out now on Merge Records.
