Coathangers' Pizza Box Setlist
|
The first part of their set consisted of mostly songs from their 2011 album Larceny & Old Lace, including "Johnny", "Sicker", and "Trailer Park Boneyard". The rest of their set were from their numerous singles and splits, including "Derek's Song". Although they have "Nestle in my Boobies" listed, I did not think they played this song (perhaps "Merry Go Round" was in its place?)
Near the end of their set, the girls traded guitarist/singer Julia "Crook Kid" Kugel and drummer Stephanie "Rusty" Luke. Then again with the bassist Meredith "Minnie" Franco taking over the drums, leaving Rusty on vocals with their finale.
Prior to Guitar Wolf taking the stage, we were shown two Guitar Wolf music videos ("Beast Vibrator" and "バッティングセンター") on a video projector along the side of the Turf Club. The video pumped up the audience, giving them a taste of what's to come. And like that, the trio took the stage to an adoring crowd.
As soon as the first song started to play, the audience started violently moshing in the front. This was to be expected, having experienced the same punk type shows from Guitar Wolf's earlier appearance in Minneapolis at 7th Street last year.

Near the end of their set, Seiji extended his hand to choose someone from the audience to join him on stage as the honorary guest Guitar Wolf guitarist. After a seemingly long decision, he grabs a young man from the audience and put the guitar on him. The guest spent the whole song trying decipher Seiji's instruction. He was understandably confused, but by the end, he was able to play the notes, while Seiji is seen stage diving and singing in the crowd.
Encore was interesting, there was a rare double encore. Only the truly dedicated fans stuck around to the very end, but it was well worth it for them.
Guitar Wolf is currently on tour in America for Beast Vibrator. If you go to a Guitar Wolf show, you'll have such a fun time, although I would suggest hanging out in the back, unless you enjoy the rough slam-dancing. If you don't live near a city on the tour, go rent or buy Wild Zero (starring Guitar Wolf), this is probably the greatest rock and roll zombie movie ever made.

Never heard of them before but I just watched a few of their videos because of your blog. Officially a fan now. Thanks!
