I just saw the preview for Metallica: Through The Never, a concert film starring Metallica, written and directed by Nimród Antal.
What Antal tried to do with Metallica: Through The Never is to show us a concert film in an exciting experience - by introducing story elements into the concert footage. It is interesting to follow the skateboard kid (we don't actually hear his name mentioned) as he goes across the city, across the underworld, to find this bag to bring back to Metallica. Storywise, it didn't make a whole lot of sense, although I did appreciate that Antal is trying something new in the typical concert film.
As for the live concert, Metallica never looked better in 3-D and in IMAX. The sound was also really good, I would imagine the soundtrack, which is released today (September 24th) via Blackened Recordings, would contain the mastered audio (and not movie dialogue/edited into their live concert). The 2-disc release will also feature additional songs not used in the movie, so you'll get to hear the soundboard recording of their two shows from Rexall Place in Edmonton and Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
If you love Metallica, you definitely need to catch Metallica: Through The Never, which is hitting theaters this Friday, September 27th, in over 300 IMAX 3D Theatres across North America. Metallica: Through The Never (Music from the Motion Picture) is available now.
