Opening for this somewhat all-ages show was Ballroom Boxer from Chicago, who played a unique take on the pop hit "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." It changes in tune to a well crafted rock anthem.
The Virginmarys hails from England and was, to me, the highlight of the evening. The drummer for The Virginmarys was so powerful that each thump got the crowd unknowing pumping their fists in the air. They are currently supporting Iamdynamite on this leg of the tour, and believe me they are full of piss and vinegar that make cucumbers turn to pickles. The drummer wears these suspenders and in my mind is because that he plays so hard that his pants may involuntarily fly off. Keep an eye on these Brits, they are such a powerful three-piece.
So from the five members in Ballroom Boxer, to the three members in The Virginmarys, comes the dynamic two-piece known as Iamdynamite. They play through their songs just as it appears on their album Supermegafantastic, song by song. Midway, there is a funny bit about a new song sung by Chris and is dedicated to Chris (the drummer). The show was humid and mid-set Chris (the singer) promised that each song he would remove one button. As they play their last song, the crowd chanted for one more song.... alas Iamdynamite played through their entire album. The band was physically stopped by the fans from exiting the stage!
So instead of leaving the fans, he brings up a few volunteers to play the tambourines and maracas. Ending the entire show with a pogo punk pop Bangles hit "Walk Like an Egyptian."
