Mother Mother: Sticks

Mother Mother just started their US tour in Los Angeles, Tuesday night at the Viper Room.
Opening up for the Vancouver based band were Battle Tapes, a funky electro mashup band and Thorcraft Cobra.
For those unfamiliar, Mother Mother is a 5 piece electro band interlaced with an 80ʼs pop style. Needless to say theyʼve got an insatiable rad look with catchy lyrics. The bandʼs fourth album “The Sticks” was released last year with solid reviews from the Vancouver Province and Toronto Star. Canadian radio has to have a high amount of Canadian bands inhabiting the airways, so bands from Canada have usually got it going on (i.e. Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene and Land of talk, just to name a few). Frontman and co-producer of the album Ryan Guldemond has uniqueness for days, with his retro hair and energetic persona onstage.
What was particularly impressive though were the harmonies from vocalists Molly (Ryanʼs sister) and Jasmin Parkin. Synthesized instrumentals along with electrifying guitar solos from Ryan had the crowd hyped and jumping around the entire set, especially when their mega hit and my personal favorite “Bit by Bit” came on into their third song. Even though this band isnʼt necessarily my particular taste in music, just the mystical feeling of being in the infamous Viper Room was enough to make it a pretty rad evening in L.A.
If you wanna catch Mother Mother, they will be stopping in AZ, Texas, New Orleans and Florida for the remainder of their tour in the states.
