Dead Confederate is an alt-country rock band from Athens, they got huge buzz with their debut album Wrecking Ball in 2008. Their third album, In the Marrow will be coming out April 16th, 2013.
If you can't wait for the album, their new EP Peyote People is out now (released Dec 19th) and available to buy directly from the band. The story behind the EP was that it was by accident: while waiting for the album to be mixed, the band decided to do a quickie recording of new songs and demos. The EP, according to singer Hardy Morris, was "just for kicks." The title, "Peyote People", refers to the different local musicians that guest appeared on the songs.

The album, written and recorded by Navy pilot Edwin Bankston, is about his battle-scarred experiences during the Vietnam War and back home.
