Coming in at a crisp not-quite-10 minutes, this EP – their first since 2009’s Drift, offers an all too brief glimpse of what may be on offer upon the release of their next full-length, which seems to be in the late stages of development.
While Atlantic Blue is certainly a worthwhile pick-up; the band’s real strength will always be in their live performances; often displaying grand, glorious instrumental outros, whose emotional crescendos may be impossible to convey on recorded medium. It was during one of these epic finales at their Dreamland EP release show in 2009 that I noticed singer/guitarist Sarah Nienaber appeared to tear a fingernail but continued playing for the several additional minutes, streaking blood over her guitar. How can you not adore a band willing to bleed for you?
Atlantic Blue is available via in a limited vinyl run of 200 (plus download) starting November 3rd at an EP release at the Turf Club in St Paul.
