The Asteroids Galaxy Tour stopped the Triple Rock Social Club last night, November 3rd.
Opening up was Millionyoung, an indie/electronica duo with Mike Diaz doing most of the heavy driving and singing. He's currently on tour for his album, Amanecer, but has already announced another upcoming album called Variable to be out next year. This is just a week after Mike Diaz unveiled four new tracks live on KEXP Radio!
Anyway, Millionyoung's background music was produced by their laptop, but the two on stage also played live instruments/keyboards along with button-pushing. The set was a standard opening slot, and I believe they ended their show with "I've Been Waiting."
As for The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, I should mention that this is one of our first bands I championed here. We got an EP from them in October 2008 and their song "The Sun Ain't Shining No More" quickly rose to my Top 5 songs of 2008.
Turnout for the Triple Rock show was excellent with the majority of the fans sporting AGT T-Shirts (they sold out their stock of large shirts last night) in front singing along to every song (even at the non-singles!)
Singer Mette Lindberg was in top form, dressed in a leopard top and gold lame underwear bottom with matching jacket. She looks like a 60s go-go dancer, especially with her golden mane of hair.
Their set was similar to their previous sold out Minneapolis show, but the songs were re-arranged a little. For instance, instead of saving "The Golden Age" for their encore, they decided to move that song in their second half of their set.
On this playlist, that they set their two early hits, "Around The Bend" and my favorite "The Sun Ain't Shining No More" really early in and then there is this dry spell of selections from their second album, Out Of Frequency. If you were a casual fan, it was really a long stretch until they finally play their double-whammy hit singles of "The Golden Age" and "Heart Attack." Sadly no covers of Men Without Hats' "Safety Dance" or Raveonettes' "Attack of the Ghost Riders," which I think would really, really go well in a large crowd. Otherwise the music sounded great, anything utilizing the horns section sounded great.
The Asteroids Galaxy Tour is currently on tour with Millionyoung. AGT's two albums, Fruit and Out Of Frequency, are out now. If you get their former album on tour, it comes with a bonus disc.
