Read More The Mountain Goats It is well known that John Darnielle, the force behind the Mountain Goats, likes heavy metal music. It comes up in interviews often, and hearing him speak …
|
Live, Darnielle is both animated and shyly devious, as the blue devils on the cover of Transcendental Youth hint at his obsession with the darker things in life, Darnielle’s vocals sing, shot and sometimes bark the stories of people struggling with love, hope and redemption. Along with bassist Peter Hughes and drummer Jon Wurster, this lineup has brought The Mountain Goats from an intimate folk influenced band into a performance comfortable on some of rock’s most famous small stages. For long-term fans, Darnielle has promised on Twitter that he is “rehearsing older-school tMG jams for the tour and I get a look from the baby like "why is daddy yelling about things"."
Whether this is your first Mountain Goats show or if you are into the hundreds, Darnielle and Co. never disappoint those who come for the music, but leave having absorbed every word spoken or sung.

It is a great album. The first listen left me a little depressed but once I got through the darkness of it all, I found it to be a brilliant collection of tunes. I think it is their best album for a while.
