The venue was championed as "Best Rock Venue" of 2011. Certainly not a venue that I would put in my top five… but I can understand that the City Pages didn't want to place the same venue in the #1 spot year after year.
The other thing you should know about the Triple Rock is that they generally have three bands on the bill. Some people will disagree with me, but for all the shows I've covered, I can tell you that there are at least three bands. Usually it's two national touring band and one local support.

Sweden's indiepop group, The Royal Concept, is on tour in the USA with The Wombats. Since we're quite fond of these marsupials, you know that I'll definitely want to check out these guys at the Triple Rock Social Club on September 18th.
What's even stranger is that they're also listed to play with another animal-band called Wolf Gang at the Varsity Theater on October 15th. Between you and me, they'll probably fall in love with the beautiful Varsity (this is definitely an upgrade).
The Royal Concept just released their self-titled EP this summer from Lava/Universal Republic. If you want to hear what the band sounds like, Universal Republic put up the EP on soundcloud. Expect a full length later on this year.

I do love the French, so I didn't hesitate to accept to see Melody's Echo Chamber at the Triple Rock Social Club on September 26th. This is the same night for Romania's Fanfare Ciocarlia, so I'll be pulling double duties for show coverage.
The bonus? Denmark's Raveonettes are headlining at the T-Rock. I've previously seen the band in 2007 and was shock to find out that they had no bass player.
Anyway! It should be a fun night for me, seeing musicians from three different countries.
About Melody's Echo Chamber, you should know that she's a beautiful young woman. She recently recorded her album with Kevin Parker from Tame Impala, which I believe is coming out on Fat Possum on September 25th.
In the meantime, you can find a Melody's Echo Chamber song, "Crystallized," on a split 7" with Unknown Mortal Orchestra that was released July 31st.
You can see her in person on her tour dates. All shows listed below are with Raveonettes.

I'm probably not attending this Triple Rock show for Menomena on October 20th, but I like their record label, Barsuk. I am generally a fan of their musicians.
Timely news: Menomena will be giving their Portland fans a sneak peak at their upcoming Moms album at an event entitled "Dark Side of the Moms." It's taking place in tomorrow (August 24th) at the Oregon Museum of Science & Industry.
Moms will be coming out on September 18th. Rolling Stones said that the band rock, but "without the cheesy aftertaste."
