Since America's not familiar with her work, she did songs from her 2006 album, Please Don't Hate Me, starting with "Beauty" and ending with the title track for her set (to be honest, I think it's probably the only album that American audience could understand since it's all songs in English). She did one Icelandic song, which I could not understand what was said. Highlight of her set is her new song, "Backbone", which has a catchy "uh oh uh oh" sing-along audience participation lyrics.
Of Monsters and Men sounded so happy to be here in America. They mentioned how they did the tourist-thing, seeing the Mall of America. There are also a lot of them on stage; I think I counted seven of them. Many of their songs contain "hey! hey!" and yes, it's catchy.
Since the band only has one album, My Head Is an Animal, most of the songs on the setlist were from that album. They did throw in The Cure's "Close to Me" cover, which in typical Of Monsters and Men had a massive build up at the end.
Not on the setlist is "Sloom", which was an encore song squeezed in between "Your Bones" and "Lakehouse".
If you want to see what all the fuss is about, check out Of Monsters and Men right now. I can guarantee you that you'll probably never see the band at such a small intimate setting, even though the band seems quite humble about their rise to fame. Their album, My Head Is an Animal, is out April 3rd, but you can pick up the album if you see them on tour.
