SAN CISCO

San Cisco's biography lists that they are from Western Australia, which is pretty vague. It's like if I told you I was in the mid-west.
These guys just graduated high school, but already going to play at the big Aussie festivals like Big Day Out and Laneway, so youth is still on their side.
I did get a chance to listen to their five-track EP, Golden Revolver. This was a quick fourteen minutes of indie-pop songs, really meant for the feel-good Summer songs. Even a slight nod to The Cure's "Boys Don't Cry" (called "Girls Do Cry" on the EP), is surprisingly upbeat and happy.
While this sort of Pitchforky/Vampire Weekend-inspired music isn't really my cup of tea, I think it's great for pop radio (which I am pretty sure Triple J is all over this.)

Across the Tasman Sea from Australia is New Zealand... where Princess Chelsea (aka Chelsea Nikkel) resides. She is releasing her album, Lil' Golden Book in the USA on September 6th, 2011, via Lil' Chief Records.
First of all, I love the homage to Simon & Schuster's Little Golden Books cover artwork. The new US cover looks more friendly from the slightly altered original cover which Princess Chelsea looks a bit older with makeup.
Unfortunately, as of this writing, I don't have the album for review, but I liked what I heard from her single, "The Cigarette Duet". It's a bit of a musical duet with the Brunettes' Jonathan Bree (who surprisingly sound like pre-drug young Iggy Pop), who tells Princess Chelsea that smoking is bad. Chelsea plays the oblivious girl, singing "well it's only twice a week".
Princess Chelsea's record label describes the album as "the soundtrack to an old Disney movie meeting Kraftwerk fronted by Enya in a 60’s production of ‘Les Miserables’ set in space." Pretty far out.
There will be a fall tour date around the album's release, so hopefully if she comes around town, I'll cover it.

Gold Leaves is basically "Arthur" (Grant Olsen) of Seattle's indie folk duo Arthur & Yu. Stereogum recently premiered his new song "Cruel/Kind". I did get a chance to listen to it, a bit on the folky side with a bit of orchestra at the end.
His album, The Ornament, comes out on August 16th, 2011 via Hardly Art Records, which I have previously mentioned that I love the label.
Since there's not much else to write about with one song, I leave you now with his upcoming tour dates:
08/16 - Seattle, WA - KEXP in-studio, 12pm PST
09/01 - Seattle, WA - Crocodile *
# - w/ Seapony, Math & Physics Club (free + all ages)
* - w/ Kevin Murphy, Joseph Giant
