I was told that Triple Rock Social Club was recently named one of the City Pages Best Rock Club and Best All-Ages Venue, but just looking at Triple Rock's calendar for the month of May, there is only ONE all-ages event (Harry and the Potters). And what's the differences between a "concert" venue and a "rock" venue? I go to a lot of shows, I wouldn't put Triple Rock in any top favorite venues, but don't tell that to the bands playing last night, everyone seemed to triple love the Triple Rock.
Despite what people will tell you, Triple Rock always seem to always have three bands (sometime more), hence it's name. For this Wednesday evening, Star Wars Day, May 4th, we are treated to not three but four bands:

Now, Now wasn't listed on the bill, but that's fine because I liked them. I saw this band, formerly known as Now, Now Every Children, last year and I thought they were young then, they're young now. It should be interesting to see what direction they take in their music when they're older.
The story I got from the banter on stage was that they were supposed to go on tour with Fake Problems (we'll get to them later), but through various issues, they decided to pull out. Instead, they were doing a special one-night support.
I think they did their famous song, "Neighbors" (thanks to guitarist Jess for introducing it), and ended their brief set with "Sleep Through Summer".
LAURA STEVENSON AND THE CANS

According to the all-knowing Wikipedia, Laura Stevenson started her rock n roll career in a band called Bomb The Music Industry!, but since she was already writing her own solo material, she had band members from BTMI! to record and tour with her, which she called "Laura Stevenson & the Cans". Currently, the Cans consists of Mike Campbell on bass, Alex Billig on accordion & trumpet, Peter Naddeo on guitar, and Chris Parker on drums.
Most of their songs were from their second album, Sit Resist, which is available as a free download.
Songs played, in correct order were: "Halloween", "Master of Art", "Caretaker" (about house-sitting?), uknown song (something about sick to your stomach), "Nervous Rex" (solo), "Shine" (with Mike on banjo), "The Healthy One" (the glockenspiel was finally used!), "Holy Ghost" and "I See Dark".

Pomegranates needs no introduction, we have covered them a few times. They must like playing Minneapolis, this was my third time seeing the band.
What's interesting about this time around is that they're doing quite a few new songs. They commented that they were "testing" out the new material to see how people take to it. Some of the new songs played "Sisters", "Lost Lives" and "Pass Away", the latter is about a dream about being backstage at a KISS concert and meeting Jesus/David Bowie.
Highlight of their set was "Everybody Come Outside", from the same titled 2009 album. Always a great song live, it feels like a call to arms.

Fake Problems was the headliner. I think starting last year I started getting a ton of emails from them, just randomly. Or maybe it was triggered when I downloaded some music from them. I don't mind unsolicited mail, but it does get kind of annoying when they sent out a message a week. So finally, I got to find out what they were about. They are a very young band from Florida.
Their intro song was The Rembrandts' "I'll Be There For You", and soon enough, Fake Problems started in with "Soulless". I thought "Astronaut" and "Mr. Rock and Roll" was the best songs.
They ended with "Songs For Teenagers", and for the first time, in a long time, an outro song was played: "America F*** Yeah" (from the Team America movie). This song was basically an anthem for patriots when we heard about the Bin Laden assassination. They did two songs for the encore, the second of the two was "You're A Serpent, You're A She-Snake".
So, based on their singalong audience, they have some awesome fanbase. They are currently on tour with Pomegranates and Laura Stevenson & the Cans, so check them out if you, er, can.
