Like last year, most of her live material consists of her second album, Vagarosa (which roughly means easy going): "Comadi", "Papa", "Sonâmbulo", "Cangote", "Espaçonave", "Grains de Beauté", etc. These songs comes out so easily with each note sung by Céu. It didn't matter if you didn't speak a word of Portuguese, people were just loving it.
The rare English song was a cover of "It Takes Two to Tangle", which was also the highlight for me last year.
As for the encore, two songs were played. The second and last song was Bob Marley's "Concrete Jungle". The song appeared on Céu's debut self-titled album and it would explain why someone kept yelling out "Bob Marley!"
If you live in Minneapolis, she returns to the Dakota Jazz Club to play a second night. Judging from full dinner tables, especially on a Tuesday night, you'll want to get there early to secure a seat before it fills up.*
Fans of world jazz, reggae, and bossna nova should want to fall in love with Céu. Her album, Vagarosa, is out now on Six Degrees Records.
