Read More Mark Mallman So basically, I was mainly there to see Mark Mallman, which I was glad was the main headliner. He came onstage with a woman bassist, guitarist (I'm told this guy's been in at least 300 bands...), headphoned drummer, and two grown men in "Mallwolf"-ish outfits.

Think that three-minute Justin Beiber song on the radio is too long ? Try Mark Mallman's epic 78-hour song marathon.
I've no idea how one man can be awake and singing and playing all three days, but it should be interesting to tune in live via webcast on markmallman.com. Andrew of W♥M tells me that he's attended at least one of the Mallman epic song (probably in one of the three days in 2004), so I'll be sure to ask him about it tomorrow.
I was fortunate enough to catch Mallman play live, and I can tell you to expect a pretty energetic and fun show. Don't really know what to say about epic song, except that it is in three phrase, "A Giant Wave", "Blood Flow" and "Liquid Moth" and contains over 400 pages of lyrics and needs nearly 100 backup musicians. Expect to see local music legends!
If you live in the Saint Paul area and free from October 7th to 10th, advance tickets are available now.
In other Mallman news, he's in another music project called Waxx Maxx. I am told by other writers that their songs are good, in a dance-electro way. You can probably expect to see the two sisters (Nicole & Alyssa) at the marathon.
You can check out what they sound like at www.waxxmaxx.com, there are two songs available for download: "Celine and Julie Go Boating" and "Phenomena". Also confirmed: girls singing in French are hot.

About a year ago, I posted "Race You" by Elizabeth & the Catapult on W♥M and it got on the top ten of the Hype Machine, so about a bunch of people heard the song and instantly "favorite" it right away. I mean, I knew they were good, but I had no idea how likeable they were until it topped the charts.
My favorite memory of their debut album, Taller Children, was that it was one of five CDs that I had in my car, on a very long drive to Des Moines, and it kept me company. I wondered what they'd sound like doing these songs live, and the good news is that I've just read that they're playing Minneapolis in October. Quite pleased to see that Aimee Mann asked them to open up for her in Atlanta!
The tour is to promote their forthcoming album, The Other Side of Zero out on Verve Forecast on October 26th. I do not have the new album, but I suspect it's in the quality of pop/mellow-ish music that is on their Taller Children album. Although I did also read that the new album album is more "raw", so it's probably not quite as polished.
I suspect they'll be playing a lot of new material, so I'll let you know how their new songs comes off. Fall tour as follows:

10/02/10 Rusty Rudder - Dewey Beach, DE

Just briefly: I know it's not Christmas yet, and you know how much I love xmas, but plans for seasonal music are already in the works. One of them is the distinctive vocal styling of B-52's frontsman, Fred Schneider! I actually don't have any music for this and probably won't request more music to review, since I'm knee-deep in a crappy dayjob and trying to enjoy what's left of my Summer.
His new band is called The Superions and their album is called Destination… Christmas!, it comes out October 26th on Fanatic Records. If you've ever liked "Love Shack", you kind of owe it to yourself to check out The Superions, right?
