Reading about Chicago's Light Pollution, you quickly see that most blogs will mention that their sound is similar to Animal Collective or Grizzly Bear or Deerhunter (or insert any animal name band) ... which is actually a turn-off if you don't particularly enjoy those pots & pans bands. Fortunately, though, seeing them live, I can tell you that I don't think they sound like those nature bands. While there is the occasional weird pre-recorded backing sound or the warpy keyboard, it's safe to say that they're just an indie rock band.
Mid-way into their set, they played the highlight of the show: "Good Feelings". This song was memorable for the fact that there were dueling keyboard for the intro.
I did get a chance to chat with singer/guitarist Jim and bassist Jed. Among other things, the last time they were in Minneapolis, they played to zombies (it's a thing here in Minneapolis, where every year everybody turn into a zombie and walk very very slowly from bar to bar). Also, they are not a fan of the Illinois tolls.
Light Pollution - Hexagon Bar, Minneapolis (4/8/10) |
* Of course, at the time, I didn't know the name of the Hexagon Bar - I was just "along for the ride" as they say.
