Pic Vicious is an electronica/hip-hop group from Southern California. The group and their single "Systematik" were previously reviewed by Vu here. Their self-titled EP is currently available via Amazon (here) and iTunes (here).
Pic Vicious, a former MC for the indie hip-hop group Illadapted, Devcon Industries, and hype-girl Letta V comprise the group. Devcon provides the synthesizer sounds and beats as well as serving as the group's producer. Their sound is described on their bio as "vaudeville meets electro glam", which partly describes Letta's contribution of theatric art to their stage performance. This art can be seen in their videos and live performances, as Pic and Letta perform in clown makeup and stylized costumes.
I found their music deliciously appealing. Although electronica and hip-hop share common roots in synthesizer instrumentation, it's not all too often that sounds between the two genres mix and mingle. I'm also a big fan of theatric makeup (my wife was a theater arts student and has a talent for it), and so judging from at least the videos alone, I can imagine that their live performance is eye-catching and artistic. It's also worth noting that they earned the #1 spot on the MySpace Top Unsigned Artists.
Not surprisingly, I would say "Systematik" and "L.A. Dreamer", which had videos produced for them, are the standout tracks. The ON Off On Remix of "Who's Your Lover", however, was so slick that I have to mention it as well. It wasn't made immediately available to me to review, but I was quite happy to go to Amazon and pony up a little change to buy a copy of the track.
