NEWS #1: POWNCE DIES
I reckon it was about time. I did setup an account there and after some frustrating experience with it, I decided to to leave the service. The most interesting thing about this news is that Vox's parent company, Six Apart bought Pownce. (Incidentally, Six Apart recently laid off some staff).
So what went wrong?
Problem number one: It was trying to be a Twitter clone. What sets it apart is instead of tiny 140-char messages, you can have unlimited text and also the ability to send files. Unfortunately, NO ONE wrote more than 140 characters. Even their input box is a tiny little box discourages a full post.
Problem number two: lack of functions for a free account. For instance, it doesn't really accept RSS, advance customization, SMS Messages, etc. From my experiences with it, there really wasn't a whole lot you could do with it.
Problem number three: Their main stars didn't even bother with Pownce. Hottie Veronica Belmont claimed that she couldn't add more than 200 friends so then left the service permanently, while co-founder Kevin Rose decided to promote his own Twitter account instead.
Problem number four: Awful name. No, really.
NEWS #2: DURAN DURAN RETURNS TO THE USA
I got a note that Duran Duran (duranduran.com) is on their final leg of their very long promotion tour (14 months!) for Red Carpet Massacre and just finishing up in the States.
Since we're all really big fan of DD (Todd and myself have mentioned them previously and Sally got a chance to see them live in Sydney earlier this year). Anyroad, I thought I'd mention the rest of their tour dates here:

December 4 - Tulsa, OK @ Brady Theater
December 5 - Houston, TX @ Verizon Wireless Theater
December 6 - Biloxi, MS @ Beau Rivage Theatre
December 8 - Columbus, OH @ Schottenstein Center
December 9 - Toronto, ONT @ Air Canada Centre
December 10 - Montreal, QC @ Metropolis
December 12 - Mashantucket, CT @ MGM Grand Foxwoods Casino
December 13 - Atlantic City, NJ @ House of Blues (@ The Showboat)
December 14 - Montclair, NJ @ Wellmont Theatre
NEWS #3: QUITZOW & SETTING SUN OFFERS EPS FOR FREE
To promote their UK tour dates (see below), they are offering two EPs for free:
New York State multi-instrumentalist artists Quitzow (myspace.com/quitzow) and Setting Sun (www.settingsun.cc) are giving back to their fans by releasing new EPs at the very cost effective price of $0.00. Quitzow’s new EP Animal Nature presents five all-new songs (including “What Time Is It?") written on the band’s Summer 2008 tour in support of its latest full-length Art College. Setting Sun’s new EP brings a new tune “They’re Calling” in addition to four remixes from the group’s 2008 album release Children of The Wild. The new collection is appropriately titled Children of The Remix.
Free is always good, grab it now! Hopefully, before the year's over in these few weeks that I will be doing reviews on both Quitzow and Setting Sun.
Here are their tour dates, I'm so jealous!
