MY MILKY WAY ARMS
I think this is their debut EP, it's self-titled and was released June 24th. My Milky Way Arms are basically two music producers, MilkMan (Grant) and Tim2K (Tim). Their myspace lists a third member, Chase. If I were to describe what this EP is, I would have to say it's like space travel, expansive and unconventional. If you like later Flaming Lips, I think you'll really enjoy these guys. Both "Magneto (Aahhh!!!)" and "Soft Alarm", are great electronic-pop-sensible song to help you started on this band. To be fair some of their songs tend to lend toward the more experimental side, such as the series of vibrating noise on "Sunshine". It looks like we've just missed their Summer tour, the next series of dates are in September: 09/12/08
09/13/08
09/22/08
09/24/08
09/25/08

JIHAE
I must confess, the striking image of a very skinny and topless Jihae ("jee-heh") on the cover of her latest EP, Afterthought, did catch my attention. Her biography lists this Korean woman as growing up in Nigeria, Sweden and the UK. She's currently based in New York. Her music is pretty laid back, and it's down-tempo beats reminds me of electronica jazz. The EP includes a brand new song, "Simple Man", and backed with four remixes. The remixed songs originally appeared as album version on her debut album, My Heart Is An Elephant (2007). Looking quickly at the tracklist on this album, it features guest spot from Lenny Kravitz and one of my favorite director, Michel Gondry. I don't have the debut album to compare, but I suspect I would like the remixes better. The two key mixes that I liked was "Cement Garden (remix)" (it's filled with her sweet voice, and a nice groove) and the jazzy slowbeat of "Do I Move You (remix)". Anyway, her main song, "Simple Man" can be downloaded on RCRD. If you like what you've heard, you can get more of her music from eMusic. Afterthought was originally released digitally on June 12th. |

Electronica bliss, that's what I've been listening to today.
