Apparently Comedy Central has a record department, although it's not really music that they're dealing with, but audio (and sometime video) of comedy routines.
Their latest release is Dov Davidoff's The Point Is… , which is coming out this Tuesday, April 22nd.
I always judge how popular an artist is by my siblings, like if they know the artist then it would be safe to say that they're quite popular. Let me tell you: everyone I've talked to not only knew, but LOVE, Dov Davidoff. They might not know his (unusual) name off the top of their head, but they definitely knew his jokes.
My favorite Davidoff joke is the two-ply condom and the Starbucks coffee joke.
I walked into a Starbucks and the guy, he got my order wrong. Which is fine, but he had this attitude, I said "That's the wrong drink." And the guy goes, "Sorry dude, I'm tired".
And I'm like "have a coffee, that's why I'm here."
He comes off as a wacky doofus with that everyman mentality. Sometime, I wish I had the video/visual to some of the jokes, as I felt like I was missing something in the audio-only portion (especially when he's making very strange sounds with his tongue or whenever he does an extra long stutter), but overall, the jokes comes through just fine.
Davidoff's jokes sounds like they actually really happened to him and his various strange situations. It sounds like he spent a lot of time in New York with scummy and homeless people haha, but I tend to believe his stories.
For instance, one of his first joke he makes is about how someone stole his bicycle seat. This isn't that uncommon, because I know that my buddy Dave had his stolen once. Since the theft, he's taken it upon himself to take the seat with him whenever park his bike.
I listened to The Point Is… at least six times now and it never gets old, even though I am already well familiar with his punchlines. What I am really looking forward to is having friends hear the album with me, so I'm volunteering to do a lot of driving.
Remember, the album comes out next Tuesday, you can pick this up at most major record stores, as well as through directly from Comedy Central. He's currently not on a comedy tour (although I suspect that will change in the next few months), but you can join his mailing list to get the news directly sent to you.
