HorrorPops are a psychobilly band from Denmark, although they're currently based out of Los Angeles, California... which I think suits them because of the LA culture of punk and rockabilly scene.
They also have a new album out called Kiss Kiss Kill Kill (released yesterday, February 5th).
My brother's a big fan of these guys, he probably caught them on the Warped Tour - and judging from these live concert pictures, the live shows looks amazing and energetic.
There is a big difference between the live act and the band. So as much time and energy as we put into creating the songs, we also care a lot about the live performance. It's really important for us to put on a show. We take pride in bringing some kind of spectacle to the stage.
Kiss Kiss Kill Kill's title comes from the fifth track (also the same title) and this song sets the tone for the other songs. It's a surprisingly poppy sounding song and you hear more guitars, than say, the upright bass (which looks like a cello).
The entire album is pretty catchy, and I tried to link their music to old horror movies (as their name of HorrorPop suggests and all the album artwork is drenched in mockup 50s movies) and I came up with these comparison from this album.
"HorrorBeach Pt II" is kind of a 60s beach movie soundtrack (no lyrics), while "Highway 55" tells a story of a murder about Lucille, and "Hitchcock Starlet" is an obvious nod to Alfred Hitchcock.
Bonus: This album got me interested in hearing more of their previous releases, so I headed over to their record label, Hellcat and got a few more free MP3s. I'm including "Craw Straight Home" here because I liked this best of the free songs I downloaded.
Look for Kiss Kiss Kill Kill out on Hellcat Records, and catch them on tour.
