When I got Karmic Whiplash's The Nervous System in the mail, everything about it was a mystery. No band photo, no press release, not even a hint on which company have sent this. I did notice it was from my city: Minneapolis, which I'll have to admit I should do more coverage on.
It was only recently did they add some details on their myspace.com, indicating Brendan Themes used to play bass in punk and metal bands. He started writing music with his acoustic guitar and eventually met Travis Lund to form Karmic Whiplash.
I like (and agree) that their digital files should be treated as a promotional tool and ask that you share their music with everyone you know. They've offered their entire album for download on archive.org in a various lossless formats (such as FLAC and WAVE). If you like what you've heard here, head over to archive.org and get more music.
You can still pick up the physical copy of the CD if you rather not go through the hassle of downloading or want to support the band.
There's a few tracks you should listen to, I like "Quiet" which has a frantic acoustic beat. It's a good sample of their sound, which is kind of folk-rock (leaning more towards rock).
The opening track, "Winter City" is also pretty good. I feel like the winter city in the song (Minneapolis) is its own entity.
PS, maybe you should add them as a friend on myspace (they currently only have 38 friends.)
