Well! weren't we all back in the 90's? Yes, even me... and maybe that was what made Peabody so appealing to me? Who knows?
Another of those small-name Sydney bands that were doing the rounds of such venues as the Hopetoun Hotel, the Sandringham Hotel, the Annandale Hotel and the Vic on the Park but have still managed to survive (albeit with a change of line-up) to this day.
I first came across these guys, i reckon, in about 1999 at a certain three-day camping/music festival in Glenworth Valley (halfway between Newcastle and Sydney)... I must admit that I only went because Suede were supposed to be playing (but didn't show up!!!).
The guys have two albums to date (Professional Againster, September 2003 and The New Violence, May 2005). What I'd describe as rock with a hint of pop (although, i've never been very good with descriptions), their songs would always put a stupid grin on my face. I'm not sure if it was because their tunes were so catchy or being when watching them live, the facial expressions on their previous drummer, Graeme Trewin (now a member of The City Lights).
I must admit though, since the drummer change-over and the addition of an extra guitarist, the sound has changed considerabley, whether it was inentional or just a result of new blood within the band, the hint of pop that I previously mentioned became an even smaller hint.
All the same, they still put on a great live show, but no offence guys, I dont think i'd pay for your next album.
Maybe I can show you.
The Weight Just Right - before the line-up change.
The Devil for Sympathy - after the line-up change.
Um... actually now i listen to them, there isn't as much of a difference as there is with their live show.
Maybe I will buy their next album..... we'll wait and see...
