When I first read Guards of Metropolis's "Sounds Like", I knew I was going to like this band. Although I would have to admit that having listened to Alligator now - I don't think they sound very much like Elastica or Garbage. They still sound great though, it's very pop/rock, especially their song "Postcards From Heaven", which you can download on their website.
Okay, with that out of the way, I should tell you a little about this band. They were originally called Softcore and the two girls are from Norway and the two guys are from California. They must've met in Norway, because the first time the band rehearsed together was in an abandoned chocolate factory in Osla.
They spent a few months playing in European and then went on 50 date US tour. Eventually they had to drop their Softcore name, because of spam filters:
The changing nature of search engines such as Google, and more sophisticated email spam filters have made it increasingly difficult to communicate with our fans and friends on the internet. Messages containing the word "Softcore" would never get to them.
Note to future band names: avoid usage of "Viagra" and "Cialis" in your name.
The song I've picked out is, "Perfect World" which, I think, is their best song. I just love it when she said:
Right here, right now.
Alligator was released this year, August 14th, on Slackertone Records. According to what I've read, they're supposed to set on a massive promotional tour for Fall 2007, so keep an eye out for them.
