Lets say we measure the album's greatness by the extra distance it propels me on my daily jog. A month ago Midasuno got me an extra 2 miles further that I normally ran. Panic Prevention? 0.2 miles. Hey, at least it's not in the minus numbers. 1/10 is far too harsh though.
Jamie T, and more importantly Panic Prevention, sounds like a mash up between the Camden drink and drug garage rock of The Libertines, the homemade indie rock of New York's antifolk finest The Moldy Peaches, with a little bit of english pub-rap favourites The Streets and a smattering of Goldie Lookin Chain's arcade beats. All critically applauded bands on their own, but together sound a little like the cover art to the right looks. Lyrics wise it's not much better, centering around the should-have-grown-out-of-it-by-now but all too common subjects of drink, drug, sex, crime a few comical insults and nowt gets much deeper than that. With most tracks either separated by, or including over them, miscellaneous ramblings by Jamie T and co. arguing and otherwise making a nuisance of themselves, the whole album sounds like the result of a teenage boy just messing around in their bedroom with a few mates. Though for all I know, this could well be true.
That's not to say there's not good songs on the album, and any fan of Pete Dougherty should feel right at home regardless. The almost grime-like Calm Down Dearest and Fozzy Bear & Lily Allen inspired Rawhide are two of the best though neither are particularly representative of the rest of the album. Radio favourite Sheila would likely have been included in the post if it weren't for that very fact; you've prolly already heard it 50 times.
So instead I've attached one of the best tracks on the album, So Lonely Was The Ballad. If you like it, you should definitely track down aforementioned indie-pop Rawhide featuring Lily Allen on chorus and backing vocals. Then again, you could just track down some original Lilly Allen tracks, or better yet just stick with The Libertines, lord knows everyone else does. Done? Yes Lily, I'm done.
