In part two of our interview with Hacktone Records' David Gorman, we look at the label's struggle with traditional retailers vs digital stores.
We also discuss what's in store for the future: including some release of obscure Stax Records and - surprisingly, a J-Pop band called Love Psychedelico.
Looking at their discography, it seems they've released a few albums, including a recent one last June 2007 called Golden Grapefruit.
We'll definitely return later to talk more about Love Psychedelico, later down the road.
In the meantime, enjoy this excerpt from the interview, which you can also download at weheartmusic.mypodcast.com.
We put out this record a couple of years ago called "Highworn Highways". Which I thought for sure it was it. It was going to be a big hit for us. I really thought it was going to do incredibly well.
It was a record that had the first recording ever made by Steve Earl and Rodney Crowell and John Hiatt. And these amazing Townes Van Zandt recordings and these amazing Guy Clark recordings.
They sounded perfect. Some of the best recording they've ever done, none of it was ever been out before. And it was just beautiful. We spent so much time doing the master and packaging and put the thing out with for sure it was going to be our biggest record to date.
And it just kind of disappeared. It didn't do anything.
Y'know, it still hurts.
As you can see, these record releases are a labor of love.
PS, what a coincident that Ryan just mentioned Townes Van Zandt on yesterday's post!
