AA Bondy came highly recommended by a reader to W♥M. There really wasn't a whole lot of information on AA Bondy, most of information online are fictional. Even his record company's website has very little information on him.
The AA stands for "Auguste Arthur", according to the fictional biography written by Roman Moore, who met the stranger and spent all day "sipping bourbon and blowing up anvils".[1]
The truth is that Bondy's real name is Scott Bondy, who, I think, was the leader singer from Verbena, a band from Alabama, Tennessee. According to Wikipedia, they attracted Dave Grohl (if you were just born yesterday, he's ex-Nirvana and Foo Fighters singer), produced their second album Into the Pink (1999).
Verbena broke up in 2003, but Scott Bondy continues on with his solo project, under the name AA Bondy.
What I really like about this debut is that there is this theme throughout the album. It feels as if all the songs were written in the late 1700's or in the Wild West.
Especially in this song, "American Hearts", which makes reference to the Gadsden flag with its lyrics, "Don't tread on me". At one point in this folky song, the harmonica breaks in and I instantly thought of Bob Dylan.
The album was released Sep 4th, and can be heard streaming on www.superphonicrecords.com. Songs worth checking out: "How Will You Meet Your End" and "No Man Shall".
